CHINA IS THIRD IN NEW PATENT FILINGS

I have many clients that express skepticism whether IP rights are enforced in China.  I believe that skepticism may be unjustified (although the cost of enforcement may not be unpalatable).

Peter Zura recently published statistics originating from WIPO that showed China to be third in the number of new patent filings.  Number one is the US and second is Japan.  Korea is fourth.

Companies would not be incurring the cost of acquiring patent protection in China if they believed the patents would be ignored or un-enforced.
